Artist: Clivilles & Cole

Year: 1992

A deeper Love (Pride)

Style: Diva House

A gorgeous Diva fem vocal house anthem with an irresistible chorus refrain that became a Gay pride anthem. Was later re-recorded with Aretha Franklin on Vocals.

# 42

Artist: D-influence

Year: 1992

"Good Lover"

Style: House-Funk

UK

House influenced Funk band from the UK with a Bizzare sounding female (?) vocalist that sounded like a guy.

san remo

# 43

Artist: Dr.Alban

Year: 1993

"Sing Hallelujah"

Style: Gospel House

Sweden

Out of Sweden...forget the dentist and pay attention to the massive gospel choir on the chorus.

san remo

# 44

Artist: Information Society

Year: 1992

"Information Society"

Style: Synthpop

Minneapolis

Its a pitty that this band had to close shop due to the lack of mass media support for electronic music. Given that we are now in the information age...it would be most appropriate for a band like them to be at the top of the charts and not these dime a dozen gangsta rap and dude rock bands that are in the charts.

Album: Love and Peace Incorporated

Note: Also check "Running" from 1988

sounderson

# 45

Artist: Inner City

Year: 1989

"Aint nobody"

Style: House - Detroit

What an album that was (Paradise). Its soo embarrasing when I hear people keep talking about the Beatles and Rolling Stones still. Its like dude there were people in the late 80's that created something very original and new. Stop beating on a dead horse! Naturally the U.S band had to find success in the U.K. for lack of attention in the U.S.

Album: Paradise

# 46

Artist: Lissette Melendez

Year: 1990

"together forever"

Very Sunny Miami music.

red flag

# 47

Artist: Red Flag

Year: 1989

"If I ever"

Style: Synthpop

U.S La Joya San Diego

A song started playing on the radio.... It was really cool...I thought to myself ...this must be the new Depeche Mode song... I thought to myself...wow.. depeche have finally made THAT killer record I wish they would have made.

Well sometimes the "imitation" turns out better than the original.

Album: Naïve Art

sounderson

# 48

Artist: Reese Project

Year: 1993

"Color of Love"

Style: House

U.S

Kevin Sounderson of Inner City with an awesome record. The funny thing is that the wrong mix of this song was included in the album.

# 49

Artist: spagna

Year: 1992

"Love at First Sight"

Style: Italo Disco

Italy

A very wonderful songwriter together with her brother have written many hits for several sunny Italo Disco music artists. This is my favorite song done by herself. She is a real songwriter who still writes however now only Italian pop ballads.

# 53

Artist: Depeche Mode

Year: 1997

"Useless"

Style: synthpop

Love to hate them...Yuk Yuk! Those fans of them... Love to strangle a bunch of them....We are also aware of the Ego tripping songwriter.. But then theres those recordings! What can you say or do. They are absolutely brilliant. Funny story...when this album came out (Useless) David went to the doctore here in California. The doctore was the brother of a co-worker of mine. Anyway the Dr. asked him: Oh..What do you do for a living. Dave: I'm in a band. At the end of the session: Well good luck with this band thingy of yours! How do you spell Depesh Mod??

kim english

# 55

Artist: Kim English

Year: 1998

"Unspeakable Joy"

Style: Diva House

U.S

Great props to Nervous Records for not giving up on this wonderful music despite the lack of support. Great real bass guitar for this song contained in a full length album of all classic house tunes. Very inspirational. Maurice Joshua is here...so is Ten City...etc.
Album: Higher Things

adeva

# 56

Artist: Adeva & Frankie Knuckles

Year: 1995

" Whadda U want"

Style: Diva House

One of House musics first big Stars. Her debut album (from 1989) was a huge hit in Europe...Ignored here in the U.S (Oh whats new!). Frankie Knuckles on the other hand has been improving his arrangements and Production skills ever since the mid 80's

Also check: "Musical Freedom" & "Don't let it show on your face"

san remo

# 57

Artist: Lippy Lou

Year: 1996

"Freaks"

Style: Lesbo House

UK

Are you Freaking? Asks the song.....And yes, I was freaking-out when this record was out in 1996. Imagine having to come up with $500 rent with a $5 an hour job! Plus have to pay taxes and pay college tuition and ..... Well this song perfectly captures the frustration...and that Keyboard sound out of a "DANGER" "DANGER" computer game perfectly enhances the message.

maldita vecindad

# 58

Artist: maldita Vecindad

Year: 1991

"Pachuco"

Style: Rock en Espan~ol

Mexico

I came to the U.S from Spain. In Spain we had been conveniently blocked from any music from latin America. The idea of rock music coming out of a latin coutry almost sounded like a joke...I mean we were brain washed to believe that only anything coming out of the UK and US is good. Well on went the TV one day when I got to the US...and my jar fell off!! It was the video for this song. Not only it KICKED MAJOR ASS, it was unique and original. It is kind of punkish, yet ska-ish, yet very Mexican yet has a Morrocan flute in it...yet it has African electic guitar on it... This sort of originality was missing in the rock music made in Spain, US or UK. The video was very appropriate...as fast passed as the song itself.

san remo

# 59

Artist: Daniele

Year: 1999

" Neve al sole (snow in the sun)"

Style: Italo blues ballad

Italy

Bluesy...husky voice... but unlike the US blues wich is sooo predictable...this Italian is a true original and most significantly he is very romantic in his melodic compositions. He also doesn't shout like the US blues men do...instead he very gently delivers.

san remo

#60

Artist: O'jays

Year: 1975

"I love music"

Style: Philadelphia

Gamble and Huff. Compositions....

san remo

# 61

Artist: Joey Negro

Year: 1991

Do what you feel

Style: Garage House

He is the Man!!! David LEE!! This guy has been making the most awsome records for the past decade. First of all...his sound is very unique....very elegant house production...nightly moog based moody synth lines... ...its hard to give his sound enough credit in writing! The only thing is that he is not a vocalist. So unfortunatelly he has been using vocal samples or the tipical diva for hire. The other so so point is that since his music in a way celebrates 70's disco music, he doesn't try hard to write original or thoughtfull lyrics to match his magical music; instead you get your average "shake your booty" type lyrics. However with music this strong and energetic one can live with it.

# 62

Artist: Montaner, Ricardo

Year: 1993

"Castillo Azul" (Blue Castle)

Style: Ballad

Venezuela

I just plane refused to listen to romantic latin balladiers...The only one we had ever heard in Spain other than Julio Iglesias, was the horrible "el puma". Anyway, when I moved to the U.S, I was stuck in trafic one day. My car stereo was jamming my tapes so I had to listen to the radio. Since anglo stations were just playing the same old 4 tunes over and over again...I switched to the latin stations. Well this song came on and I was kind of making fun of it at first... but since my hands were full driving, I couldn't change the station. Forced to hear the whole thing...I thought to my self: It wasn't bad at all. In fact, I usually don' care much for the "male" voice, but Ricardo has the most beautiful clean sounding male voice. Non of that "chest"-y voices we get from the other men. The song itself is so elegant too. The album that came out before this one had some killer songs to: "Dejame llorar" (let me cry) and "En el ultimo lugar del mundo".

san remo

# 63

Artist: Mina

Year: 196?

Un anno di amore ( A year of love)

Style: Climax Ballad

Italy

It's difficult to describe the quality and importance of an artist like Mina to an American. Musically, if you enjoy "Dusty Springfield" you will love Mina. By the way, Mina was already a star when The Springfields got their start. Qualities: Vulnerablility, climaxing performances.... Unique one-of-a kind voice....etc. Her songs have also been used in Almodovar movies.
